Giving in to emotion and obsession, Sean Allen Fenn fuses dark and poetic indie rock with bedroom-produced electronic music, giving it a pop sensibility. His emotive and dissonant-yet-desirable sound represents the integrity of a DIY philosophy tinged with an innocent magnetism.
“It seemed to me impossible to leave the world until I had brought forth all that I felt was within me - Oh Providence grant me at least but one day of pure joy - it is so long since real joy echoed in my heart.” - Ludwig van Beethoven.
To express this emotion and the urgency it creates is the drive of an artist. For Sean, this drive is executed with the instruments with which he is most familiar: a guitar and a computer. In an interview, Jim Reid of The Jesus and Mary Chain, when asked what advice The Chain had for aspiring musicians, replied, “Guitars are cheap. Get a guitar and just get out there.” This get-out-there-and-do-it philosophy stuck with Sean. Today, computers are cheap. Music production software is also cheap. Both, you can say, are as cheap as a guitar.
Sean Allen Fenn, formerly known as Kreed DuChat, of the 1990s industrial band, Cybersmack and later of the dark ambient, shamanic group, Trip Tech, has deep roots in the underground electronic music scene. (Sean also DJs electro and rock and has used the alias, “Skeletor MkNasty” in early San Francisco gigs.) With Cybersmack, Sean and high school friend and band mate Todd Behrmann, were referred to as "one of the next great acquisitions" by Industrial Nation Magazine. Their former band, Quijita, performed with acts including Roz Williams of Christian Death.
Sean later went on to form Trip Tech in 2000 with Juan Carlos Mendizabal, a shamanic electronic musician from El Salvador. They released Children of the Secret in 2002 on Mendizabals label, Black Note Music. Of their album, BPM Magazine said, “Children of the Secret shattered all your preconceived ideas of electronic music.” Electronic Musician called it “a daring electronic work that blurs stylistic boundaries.”
In the Fall of 2003, Sean began writing songs for what became his debut solo record, The Gutters of Heaven. This EP is crafted with songs, both eloquent and simple, yet dynamic. They tell the story of how the perception of love, lust and romance begins, climaxes and dies, leaving one disjointed, only to do it all over again. Beyond the personal meaning, these are songs about feelings that everyone can relate to.
Sean Allen Fenn moved to New York and started a band named The Eidolons. The evolution of a legacy continues in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with DJ appearances as DGTLHRNE. He is enigmatic in his commitment to follow his passion.
“The future is good. I’m confident to bring everything I’ve got for anyone who will listen. This is my life.”
